| I continue to enjoy creating |
| these asssemblages made from |
| the covers of used books. |
| I'm finding, though, that some true |
| bibliophiles are shocked to see |
| books destroyed in order to |
| create art, and to them I would |
| like to explain that I get my |
| old books from the San Francisco |
| Friends of the Library, a group of |
volunteers who sort donated |
| books, and save those that can |
| be resold in their used bookshop. |
| The rejects get their covers torn |
| off and discarded, and the text |
| blocks recycled. So I am giving |
| new life to these abandoned |
| treasures. |
| I found in doing these most |
| recent pieces that I've become |
| seduced by the rich colors of |
| some of the covers, and have |
| also been thinking somewhat |
| more abstractly. |
